Your Purpose-Day One

One of my all-time favorites to read and read again would be psalm 139.

It shows God's perfect unending love for us. We each travel different paths in life, but the main one should and always will be the road to heaven. The Bible tells us in Matthew 7:13-14, narrow is the way and few enter through it. Now, that can be humbling and scary at the same time.

Narrow and only a few? But God, there’s 7 billion people on the planet?! And few only enter…?!

Again, scary.

But Jesus reminds us, no one comes to the Father but through me, John 14:6.

Friend, He loves you. He knew everything you would do, and everything that would keep you from Him. Ask Him daily what would keep you from those gates. Let the comforter reveal to you everything He has plans for you.

You are not alone. We are his chosen people.

Now, none of that is to sound preachy. It’s just the truth. Now, while yes, it may sound that way it is only said as a reminder, today. Today, I want to talk about where your purpose lies, which is in Christ, if you want a fulfilling-full life. God always makes a way for us in dark times. So, no matter where you are, the mountaintop or the valley, He will set your feet upon the rock and on a firm foundation. If you so, choose.

Now, apart from one of my favorite chapters, I remember when I was praying to be a flight attendant. I wrote down Jeremiah 29:11 and Habakkuk 2:3. Both were aspirations and prayers I spoke over myself often. Thankfully, after 4 years of applying and countless no’s, I did in fact get my wings. One of the happiest days of my life. I got to travel and meet people from all over the world.

But those verses were some of God’s amazing promises to us. I have a little book entitled God’s promises. I try to keep it visible and handy for when I need a little reminder. So, quickly can we forget where our help comes from. If you are a seasoned believer (meaning you have been around the wilderness for a while or maybe you’re just now entering into the promise land) or even if you’re a baby Christian and you’re still learning to walk in His ways. Wherever you are old or new, you can still start from scratch and start anew.

My pastor recently did a refreshing service, and it was so powerful! It brought a realization to me, that sometimes we need to refresh our faith. This world, with all of its ups and downs can wear you out. It can bring you to your knees quickly. But remember where to look up and where your help comes from. Taking time to refresh your mind, whether that be some alone time at home talking to God or maybe getting outdoors and surrounding yourself with nature. Do whatever feels best for you to get some real one on one time with God. And just start talking, it may make you feel funny talking out loud but close your eyes and imagine Him sitting with you. The more you do this the easier it becomes. If you have to start with, "Hey God, it's me again. I know it's been a while, but I wanna chat." Then just let Him know what is on your mind. There is no right or wrong way to spending time with God. Yes, there is only one way to the Father, Jesus. But your relationship with Him can be completely different from someone else's relationship with Him. And that is totally okay!!

So, now that we’ve talked about refreshing. Let’s dive into what God’s purpose for our life is.

Now, a simple google search can give you multiple different links, and websites talking about all sorts of different aspects for God’s purpose for your life, but I want to break it down for you.

This week and some of next week, because I am studying and praying about this before bringing it to you.

I’m going to go over a few key points and ways to put them to work in your life.

The first one and it may be obvious, but let’s crawl before we take off running.

Is a personal relationship with God.

Now, that wasn’t too much of a deer in headlights moment was it?

The most important thing we can have in this world is a relationship with Christ.

Allowing Him into every aspect of our lives can be nerve wracking when we’re just starting out. Giving your will over to God completely surrendering everything to Him can be terrifying. Let’s face it, half the time we’d rather Him come down here next to us, and say “okay, this is what I want you to do.”

But the funniest thing is, He’s already done it.

This is where the relationship comes in. Through Faith in Him!

How do you grow in your faith? By hearing the word of God, Romans 10:17.

Scripture tells us everything we’re supposed to do. Right down to the last day, love your neighbor, pray for your enemies. On and on, we are to actively seek God’s face.

Now, you’re gonna ask me, "Well how am I supposed to seek His face when I can’t actually see His face?!" But you can, He’s in every sunrise, Proverbs 8:17.

Years ago, I was on a flight from Colorado to Georgia when I sat next to a young lady who had recently had a child. Her husband sat across the aisle from her with their baby. As they took turns holding that sweet little baby, we happen to get on the topic of faith and what we believed in. She’d been raised in a certain denomination and had since fell away from it. I remember telling her that I see God everywhere I look. Especially, in a sunrise, and her reply was, “That’s nice and all, but I just don’t see it that way.”

My heart ached for this little family. I still pray for them and think about them often. I have no idea who she is, where they are, and I definitely couldn’t pick them up out of a line up, but I still pray. You see sometimes when we’re actively seeking God, He’ll send us people who need what we’re learning. Or even what we’re living through. You never know if God is using your circumstance to help someone else that is going to cross your path.

This is why it is so important for us to be in a right standing with God. A personal, first name basis relationship with God. If you’re one of those who needs that, let’s start fresh. Let’s start a new chapter with Him. We’ll do this together, and I promise you are not alone, and He is so ready to start fresh with you, too!

Pray this with me,

Father,

I know you know me better than myself. All my uprising and my laying down. You know my heart and mind better than I ever will. You know every word that will pass my lips. Lord, I need a fresh start I need to surrender my life to you fully. I need you to come in and take over fully. So, nothing in my life is within my grasp. I surrender my life to you. I lay it down at your feet. I give you all my thoughts and ways and whatever you have planned for me I will do. God, and when I find myself not wanting to surrender something or whatever the case may be, Lord bless me with the opportunity until I can take that next step. Forgive me Father when I fall short and lose focus.

I pray all of these things in your precious name, Jesus, amen!

Prayer adapted from Psalm 139

Friend, start this day feeling renewed. Rekindle that relationship with Christ today. Old things pass away, and all things become new, Corinthians 5:17.

Stay Blessed
