Hey friend, and welcome back to my little corner of the interworld...
Today, I’ve got a tale that most Southern homesteaders know all too well.
🐔 Chickens.
They were the first animals we brought onto our homestead—our feathery pioneers. Why chickens, you ask?
So glad you did. See, I like eggs. Scrambled eggs. Scrambled eggs with a homemade biscuit. Fried eggs with a good ol’ loaf-a-bread. Eggs just hit the spot. So naturally, I love my chickens... well, most of the time.
This weekend, however, taught me something entirely new.
We had family over, and I was showing my cousin around the yard—my garden, my projects, my “still-need-to-finish-that” list. You know, the usual homestead tour. We strolled over to check on the chickens, and I grabbed the waterer to refill it. Easy enough.
But as I turned to leave, low and behold, one of those crazy chickens launched Himself onto my back like he was auditioning for the Bantam rodeo. Wings flapping, claws flailing, full-on poultry panic mode.
Let’s just say... me and that Rooster are not on speaking terms.
But here’s the thing.
That sneak attack got me thinking—how often do we feel targeted in life? Not by chickens (hopefully), but by the enemy. How often does he sit just outside the door of our minds, sliding little doubts under the crack like unwanted junk mail?
I’ve felt it. More times than I can count. But here’s what I know without a shadow of a doubt:
God is right there. On our side of the door.
You are never alone, friend. Even when you’re under fire, when everything feels like it’s falling apart, when nothing seems to be going your way—He’s still working. Still watching. Still guarding.
Even when we can’t see the attack physically, we can rest in this truth:
“I, the Lord, watch over it; I water it continually. I guard it day and night so that no one may harm it.” —Isaiah 27:3
So, whether you’re dodging spiritual warfare or rogue chickens, remember—God doesn’t sleep on the job. And He certainly doesn’t forget about you.
Now go crack an egg and laugh a little. You’ve got this. 💛
Stay Blessed!
