Answering the call

Hey Friends and welcome back to my little corner of the internet,

Today, I woke up early. It's rare, but it happens. I woke up before my little was even stirring; I got out of bed, snuck into my kitchen, grabbed a cup for my coffee, tossed in a K-cup and hit brew.

While I waited on it to finish brewing, I opened up my blinds to let in the morning light. I hate having a dark house. Natural light and electricity keep me sane most days.

When the gurgling sound of the end of the brew interrupted my inner monologue, I added my creamer and headed for the couch. I opened my bible and started chapter 5-6 of the book of John.

Here's what I found: While there's a lot I could say about this chapter, but I want to talk to you about what was revealed to me in verse 65. "And He was saying, 'This is the reason why I have told you that no one can come to Me unless it has been granted him [that is unless he is able to do so] by the Father.'" Now, if you have ever thought, "God didn't call me, so I can't follow Him," I'm going to prove to you why that's a lie. If you go down to verse 70 it says, (Jesus speaking), "Did I not call you, the twelve? And yet one of you is a devil." Jesus literally called everyone. He does NOT pick and choose like one is more worthy than another. He chose each disciple even knowing the outcome (Psalms 139:16 confirms this). The difference is whether or not you accept His call. God knew what Judas Iscariot was going to do. It fulfilled prophecy, yes, but Judas didn't choose Jesus in the end, he chose his own self-interest.

There's a lot more to be said about the book of John. So much of Jesus' life and his teachings fill those pages. But there's something even as a seasoned believer I used to struggle with. See like a lot of people I've fought with the "why me" questions. "Why me?" "Did He really call me?" Self-pity will have you asking, "What's so great about me?" "Would He really call me?" Or the doubt that you don't have any gifts... "There's not much I'm good at."

So much doubt and unbelief fill those questions. If you go deeper, you'll find what God really says about you. One verse I love is in Psalm 139:14 "For I am fearfully and wonderfully made." That by itself shows you are not a mistake. You are worthy and made just the way God intended. He knitted you carefully together in your mother's womb (Psalm 139:13). You are not a mistake, so whatever God has in store for you believe it. Accept His call and know you are not alone. Don't compare your walk with someone else's. Trust me, envy is not a bandwagon you want to hitch yourself to. It can destroy the plan God has for YOUR life.

Each disciple had issues, I can do a whole post on Peter alone, because if I had to pick a disciple I most related to it would be him or his brother Andrew. Peter dealt with anger and even denied Jesus 3 times. Andrew dealt with a lot of anxiety. Both extraordinary men dealt with real human problems, but in the end, they both chose Jesus. You can too.

We each are given the gift of eternal life. But it's up to us to decide whether or not we want to answer His call. Have you accepted that call today? If not start here, Give your life to Christ- A Prayer | F.A.S.P

Stay Blessed,
